OHSUR 2008: Lightly toasted & done.
26 April 2008
Well, after all of the crazy weather here in the NW the last month (remember the snow just last weekend?) – today was sunny and 70+, with a light breeze. Stunning day – and beautiful fields. The sunscreen came out and so did the hucks.
To start it off – let’s talk about the Girls. Two teams squared off for the Oregon state title – and Churchill’s local, national, and soon to be worlds experience was simply too much for the new team from Summit. A spirited, but lopsided win, gave Churchill the title. With only two teams in competition – and the SOTG trophy still on the line, they decided to go head-to-head again with the time tested “Bang, Bang” along with the final showdown of “Ninja, Cowboy, Bear”. And in the end – it was Churchill also bringing home the SOTG hardware.
On the Open side, all discs went South today, as South Eugene simply ran away from the competition. South won by a combined 44-12 on the day. The second place game between Churchill’s Lancers and Crescent Valley’s Tribe was close until just after half. After a tied game at 6′s, the Lancers simply put the game away, to win in cap, 10-7. Looking to hold seed, Summit Varsity took the field against Tribe. With the score at 8′s – Tribe was able to score twice against an athletic and active Summit. In cap, Tribe narrowly won, 10-9. The SOTG award went to the very deserving Summit JV squad.
Thanks to all that made it up (and over) to Corvallis today. Look here in the next day or so for a pic or two and a link to the portfolio. If you (or someone you know) also took pictures – and they’re posted - post a link in the reply or email it to me and I’ll make sure it gets posted.
Hope to see ya’ll back here in a few weeks for OHSUC – on the weekend of 17-18 May. Also, good luck and safe travels to the Churchill Girls and the South Open team at Westerns in two weeks.
Back to putting lotion on my sunburn… -Jones
Friday!
25 April 2008
OK – we’re setting up the fields today – and the weather, so far, looks stunning!
Open division has just added Summit JV! That creates 5 rounds tomorrow instead of 3. Games will be played to 11 instead of 15 – and rounds are now shorter. There are some suggestions for seeding on Score Reporter – and some suggestions for round-by-round schedules – but they’re only that – suggestions.
Tonight, some time, I’ll get the schedule finalized – but note to self – the first round bye will go to one of the Summit teams. So, if your name is Churchill, South Eugene, or Tribe – be there and ready to play at 10.
That’s it for right now. Drive safe – and drop me a note if you have questions. -Jones
A Big Thanks!
